Additional Oklahoma City Thunder Info

The Oklahoma City Thunder was first established in 1967 as the Seattle Supersonics and were the first major North American sports franchise based in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle SuperSonics won 3 conference titles (1978, 1979, 1996) and the 1979 NBA Championship.

While the team was struggling in the first decade of the 2000s, a number of off-court events took place that ultimately led to the franchise’s relocation to Oklahoma City in 2008. The newly named Oklahoma City Thunder quickly rebuilt, and behind the standout play of forward Kevin Durant and guard Russell Westbrook, the Thunder qualified for the playoffs in their second season in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma city advanced to the Western Conference Finals in both 2011 and 2014 and to the NBA Finals in 2012.

The team returned to the Conference Finals in 2016, but were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in 7 games. Oklahoma City Thunder Ticket Holders were surprised to see Durant leave for the Warriors in the following off-season. The Thunder then rebuilt around Westbrook. While he made NBA history by averaging a triple-double and setting the league record for most triple-double games in a season (42) in the 2016–2017, the team did not have enough great complementary players, and its season ended with a first-round playoff exit. Westbrook averaged another triple-double during the 2017–2018 regular season, but the one-dimensional Thunder failed to advance past the first round in the following playoffs.

Oklahoma City Thunder Ticket Holders are known for being among the most devoted and energetic fans of any NBA team. They arrive at Chesapeake Energy Arena ready to cheer from the pre-game warm up until the last second of the game. Fans of the Oklahoma City Thunder can get tickets to join the excitement from Golden Tickets.
